Chushi Pithe: The Essence of Bengali Culture

Chushi Pithe is an ancient food originating from Bengal as this dish is a symbol of love and warmth of a Bengali family. Which is a specialty dessert made during Poush Parbon, a harvest festival offering thanks to Mother Nature, this Pithe is made with a lot of effort and time.

How Relevant is Chushi Pithe

This dish of chushi pithe is one of those dishes which takes a special effort and many memories to cook. The key ingredients are:
  • Rice Flour: Used in most Bengali dishes; this is ground at home for making it fresh; softer rice flour also means a fresher dish.
  • Nolen Gur (Date Palm Jaggery): This adds thickness and texture to the dish.
  • Grated coconut: This not only provides nice flavor and aroma but also enhances the richness in the dessert.

Wash the rice flour and knead it into a dough. Next, make tiny shapes that resemble chushi, which means ‘small’ in Bengali, then boil them in a fine blend of coconut milk and jaggery to make the most exquisite and glutenous dessert!

A Best Dessert for Winter Season

Chushi Pithe has significance in Bengal culture and tradition, especially during winter season. This season where Nolen Gur is available fresh makes it very delicious and the weather makes it a go to dessert in any Bengali household.
The dish is mostly served warm, so it goes well with cold nights such as the ones experienced during winter.
